‘Born in London of Persian decent, L.A.-based DJ Shiva made the move stateside as a youth, arriving first in Florida and later settling in Los Angeles, CA. Still young and vibrant, as a woman and as an artist, DJ Shiva has already enjoyed an enviable amount of visibility and casts a strong signal around Southern California and the world at large. While she is a lover of all music, DJ Shiva is particularly keen on uncovering the best of 60’s soul and 70’s funk; 80’s dance and 90’s hip hop & RnB; native reggae & dub rhythms; and perhaps most noticeably, turning crowds on to the boundary-pushing & genre-defying sounds of house, world and electronic music.
As in touch with her Eastern as she is her Western culture, Shiva is a DJ with many spots to call home and many people and places to call her influence. She can be heard weekly alongside Cypress Hill’s B-Real on B-Real TV, and spends her days under the instruction of multi-Grammy winning producer Warryn Campbell (where Shiva is assistant to the head engineer of Campbell’s critically acclaimed production company, ‘My Block Inc.’). Her live sets are heard monthly on Jamie Foxx’s Sirius Radio broadcast ‘The Foxxhole’ while two of her mixtapes were released exclusively on HipHopDX.com (there they were top-rated by the site’s users and are still highly sought after). Shiva has been heard over the airwaves alongside veteran DJ’s the Beat Junkies on L.A.’s 93.5 KDAY and on DJ Kayper’s weekly BBC Radio show, among others. She has DJ’ed on camera for Playboy TV and completed back-to-back European tours in the summers of 2010 and 2011. While between tours she DJ’ed the SmokeOut Festival (attended annually by 40,000+) as direct support for Nas & Damian Marley and has spun special guest sets at several other major Guerilla Union festivals, proving again that she is as comfortable on the festival main stage as in the underground, locals only spot. Always creating, Shiva’s production chops and mastery of the art of the remix are second only to her record-spinning and dance-inducing skills, the latter of which can also be seen and heard during her club residency at Hollywood’s House of Blues Sunset Strip.
DJ Shiva’s diverse skills and tastes find her just as captivating in the studio as onstage, in the underground or in Tinseltown, CA. She has played host and DJ to Warner Bros. Official Grammy After Party, Janet Jackson’s Official AMA After Party, and Jamie Foxx’s birthday show, and in the same turn will frequent the rare and lesser-known LA gatherings, those that exist purely for the artists and the artistry. DJ Shiva is a creative young talent with a unique sound and a growing body of work, add to that a work ethic that keeps her always on the heels of her latest distinctive effort and it comes as no surprise that DJ Shiva continues to make waves both in Los Angeles and abroad’ (- BReal.tv)
